101 Things in 1001 Days

So first Sarah (http://greathera.typepad.com/blog/2009/03/101-in-1001.html) posted a 101 things in a 1001 days list, and I thought hey that's a really good idea. It would give me direction & kind of a "to-do" list of things to acomplish. Then I put it off... because I am lazy. Then Kristina (http://geeked-up.blogspot.com/2009/04/101-in-1001.html) posted one, and I said, "oh yeah I need to make one of those". So I did... and it took forever. But here it is, I'm not sure if I'll be able to complete them all, but I'm gonna do my damndest! All my writing projects are labeled "writing project" here, but if any of you who know me are curious to know more, feel free to ask me through any number of private chanels. DM me on Twitter, GTalk, Email, text, call, whatever. If any of you see something you liked to help out with or do as well, let me know. Ok, here it is...

101 THINGS IN 1001 DAYS

1. Write this list and post it on the ol’ blog… hey 101 is a lot, so yeah I’m counting this.
2. Get my personal shit sorted so that I can be a better friend, son, roommate, and person. (this is a biggie that I’m not going to get specific on, but it is very important)
3. Write + Blog far more frequently.
4. Try at least 12 new restaurants. (I tried 3 new ones during ECCC and they were all good)
5. Writing Project.
6. Writing Project.
7. Writing Project.
8. Writing Project.
9. Writing Project.
10. Writing Project.
11. Get something I wrote published somewhere.
12. Work out more frequently.
13. Go bowling at least once a month, even if I’m “that guy there by himself in the middle of the day”.
14. GET A NEW JOB!
15. Pay off my credit cards completely.
16. Read all of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World Omnibus.
17. Flesh out and get people to play a Knightwatch D+D game. (it’s a D+D world I cooked up in high school that has never really seen SERIOUS gaming)
18. See “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in a theatre with a bunch of friends.
19. Go to Victoria, B.C. again.
20. Succeed on medium difficulty vocals at least on a few Rock Band 2 songs.
21. Read all of Christina Vincent’s “The Occult Consult” (http://occultconsult.blogspot.com/) & give her my honest opinion of the piece.
22. Get my art & posters from this year’s ECCC framed.
23. Move out of my parents’ house.
24. Go on a date.
25. Get people to play a Birthright D+D game. Birthright is still one of my favorite D+D worlds.
26. Go Back to School.
27. Writing Project.

41. Clean my lair.
42. Organize my comics and books.
43. Go to the Seattle Film Festival at least once.
44. Go to the zoo. The Woodland Park Zoo is one of my favorite places to go in Seattle and I haven’t been in years.
45. Go on the Underground Old Seattle tour. I’ve lived up here for over a decade and have still never been to the underground.
46. Go on a brewery tour. We have tons of great breweries up here and again I haven’t been.
47. Go to a theme park/fair/something. I love going on rides and shit. (damn right I’m mentally 12!)
48. Writing Project.
49. Writing Project.
50. Writing Project.
51. Read some of the books that I have bought and never read.
52. Do some yard work around the house… it needs it.
53. Get the monitor on my new (hand me down) laptop fixed.
54. Finally finish the weaning off caffeine and make chocolate an occasional thing and not an everyday thing. Yes, this one sucks.
55. Get all my music together and into some sort of playlist.
56. Do something else artsy. Even though a lot of other artsy things are difficult for me on account of the shaking hands I have, expanding my repertoire won’t hurt and will spark inspiration.

58. Discover 3 new bands/artists to listen too regularly.
59. Eat at Blue C Sushi at least once a month, and try something new each time. I love me some sushi.

65. Meet some of my awesome Twitter friends in real life. Since getting on Twitter I’ve met some really cool people and it would be nice to meet and hang out with them at some point.
66. Spend some quality time hanging out with Dan & Rachell. They are some of my awesome former co-workers that I don’t hang out with enough. (Note to Dan: quality does not = sexy)
67. Try out a home brewing kit… and make drinkable beer with it.
68. Go camping. I used to go camping a lot back in my Boy Scout days. It’s been many years.

77. Spend some time outside just relaxing. Because I seriously need to learn to sit back and relax.
78. Do a better job of bringing in stuff for co-workers birthday’s while I’m still at the ON. Sometimes the more awesome of my co-workers are the only things that make that hellhole bearable.
79. See a few theatrical productions. We have a lot of college and professional theatre in the area, I should go see some.
80. Hang out more with Raina & Jeff. Raina’s another awesome former co-worker I don’t get to hang out with enough and Jeff is her boyfriend whom Jack and I shoot things on the video gaming machines. We’re trying to resurrect a weekly go over and hang out, it’s just a matter of sticking with it.

Tuesday Morning Nerd Fights!

So after Sarah Kuhn's Gambit post... http://www.alertnerd.com/?p=1991 (twice I have referenced this in 2 consecutive posts :S) I realized I had just had a similar nerd battle experience... and Sarah asked me to share it.

Two of my roommates work for an online Magic: The Gathering card store and a new set "Alara Reborn" just came out. One of our friends & I agreed to help them open up and sort cards to get pre-orders ready. So the cast is the 3 employees there (all experienced Magic players), myself (experienced Magic player), and our friend, the youngster (not nearly as experienced as anyone else in the room, but he's 18 therefore he KNOWS everything). now I'm sure we all remember being know-it-all 18 year olds, but well you'll see...

Jor-El: Wow, this card sucks.

Jake: Um... no it doesn't.

GSS: What are you smoking?!

Me: Are you retarded?!

Paulio: Nah-uh that card is good!

Jor-El: no way! it sucks!

Group: *facepalm* followed by litany of explanations as to how and why the card is actually good...

Rinse, Wash, & Repeat... for every card... all day long. Vary for "This card is AWESOME!" statements followed by explanations of exactly why "that card" is not, in fact, "AWESOME!" Needless to say there was a great amount of nerd arguing & debate that day... and most of it 4 on 1. While somewhat frustrating at the time, it's still kinda funny in hindsight how worked up we all got about Magic cards... because we're all total nerds.

That's it kids. Another real life story of the Life & Times of Mike Miller, Robot Fighter.

Weekend What If... The Most Pervasive VD in the Marvel U?!

w00t! the WWI? makes a return! now to get this one you should go read Sarah Kuhn's Gambit blog post & the comments section... so here we go!

Reading is Fundamental... or I read some stuff!

I read some stuff, here is what I thought... WARNING: may contain hyperbole!

Jack Kirby's OMAC: One Man Army Corps

Wow, Kirby was a fucking genius! This is just good, crazy fun. With an Emphasis on the CRAZY... you see in the world to come a giant faceless Global Peace Agency will keep the peace... with faceless(yet non-violent) agents to do the grunt-work. But for their Army... well they have a the world's most sophisticated machine, Brother Eye turn some random schmo into OMAC, the One Man Army Corps! And Brother Eye does it all... FROM SPACE! With hormones and molecular rays and shit! OMAC proceeds to beat the crap out of everything that threatens "peace". And the ending, well I won't spoil it but its as wacky and fun as the rest. If you enjoy crazy good times adventure, I highly recommend this read!

Oh and Kirby's Brother Eye manages to be waaaaaay creepy...

Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears

Well, this title has nothing to do with the mass relocation of the Cherokee people... but it does have a lot to do with being awesome. A gruesome and bloody mess of a tale of revenge, mayhem, and the post Civil War frontier. Garth Ennis works his magic, making this story both brutal and thought provoking... but mostly brutal. Clayton Crain's art on this book is AMAZING! If you enjoy violence, revenge, blood, gore, and demons give this book a try!

Planetary: Crossing Worlds

Warren Ellis' scribes 3 tales about the world's most secret superteam. I'm gonna talk about my favorite, Planetary/JLA: Terra Occulta. In this alternate world tale the Planetary organization rules the world with an iron fist and has advanced technology to highly futuristic levels. The only people who oppose them? Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince, and Clark Kent! The "big 3" really shine in this tale where we see a very different league in a very different world. If you like the DC supes, give this one a try just for something a little different.

Well that's it if my reviews sound a little hyped-up, I blame Kirby... his books are hype-filled... and its infectious!

Yes this is one of those, why I haven't posted in a while posts...

Well a lot of personal shit has been going on and making it hard for me to find inspiration and such, yep that's it, end of story. I've been writing more so hopefully this blog will begin to ressurect. I also did this http://bigmikesterrordactylranch.blogspot.com/ because I think its funny. Thanks for sticking with me while I figure shit out! :)

The 36 Chambers of Bloging... or something...

So I've not been very good about blogging... or keeping up with my Weekend What If?s, stress is the primary cause of this and hopefully I can move past it and you'll all see more of me.

But I did change the layout a bit to match my new Wu-Tang name, "Dependable Skeleton"... aw hell yeah.

Kyle (http://kylestevensmusic.blogspot.com/) linked to this http://www.recordstore.com/wuname/wuname.pl where one can discover their Wu-Name.

I know a few of my Twitter peeps have done this already so I tell all of you what... leave your Wu-Name in the comments and I'll scour the internet to find you a Wuserpic, like my new Dependable Skeleton one (that's Skelly from the game Chrono Cross if your curious). See I'm back and this time with prizes!

UPDATE: the Skelly pic was apparently too creepy so I changed up... its Invincible time everybody! (you can still get Wuserpics with comments though)
